We have excerpts!
July 24, 2011
No, I still haven't been to see Captain America. Or Harry Potter. I am not happy about this. Harry Potter, well, that's okay, actually. I promised one of my dearest friends in the world I'd wait for her, since we've seen the last three together, and she lives five hours away. Two weeks, and I'm in. As for Cap, I've just had a busy weekend.
But hell, even that's okay, as part of that business was pulling out some excerpts from Equilibrium. So now the page has a set-up blurb, a link to the (as yet unpopulated -- preliminary cover art by P.L. Nunn is amazing, and I cannot wait to see the final product) Loose Id page where it'll live, the heroes', uh, trading card stats, and now, actual pieces of the book!
There are two. One is PG. Totally tame, apart from the lightning. The second one, well, it's a little PG-13. Or a lot. But it's the stuff that comes after that's really interesting, so as not to spoil. Ha!

I'm still kind of working out just how to draw the lines. I'm one person (well, don't tell the voices), but there's a need for two names. Someone who might be interested in this stuff might find themselves a little sick to the stomach if they read the darker stuff. Someone who's used to a little blood and death in their sex might spontaneously develop cavities if they read sweet, sweet superpowered romance.
Okay, sometimes it's not so sweet. But sweeter than the horrorotica that's more likely to come out of my darker half.
But I've decided that the line is just with the blog. My twitter and tumblr accounts aren't just for publishing stuff, they're actually mine. Comics and movies and music and books and politics. Well, not much of the latter, but funny signs here and there, right?
So if you're at twitter or tumblr, say hi!
And back to working furiously on sorting out the superhero science. Because science, my friend, is hot.
Just ask Sue Storm.

I know, I keep linking to the Dark Fiction Me Blog. The Evil Twin , or whatever. Thing is, the news I have that's specific to this blog is probably not all that interesting to anyone just now. Equilibrium is in edits, editor Raven McKnight is beyond fucking awesome -- but who wants to hear about edits on a forthcoming book from an as yet unpublished author? (Or, more accurately an as yet unpublished penname. Poor Katey Hawthorne, she's got a few years before she catches up with KV Taylor. Uh oh, now I'm talking about both my names in third person. Christ, I knew I was losing it...)
I promise the book will be fun, though! I mean, look at these guys. They just scream fun.
Or something.
So here's a link to my rambly ass post on X-Men: First Class, which I finally saw this weekend. X-Men fans may be interested in the comments, too, where Kalen O'Donnell makes some really good points about the movie industry and Marvel comics in general, and we go off on a nerd alert about gender, sexuality, and ethnicity in both mediums.
Long story short: it had a few problems, but I enjoyed it. I've liked the more recent Marvel Movies better, though. The Iron Man films were great, and Wolverine was more fun than it should've been, too.
Okay, Thor was dumb. But pretty, you gotta admit.

DC Reboot Initial Thoughts

So I'm pretty sure this blog is going to have a little bit of crossover with my Other Blog--which is to say the one that I use for my other penname and general sort of things. Mainly when I go on a rant about comics, which is sort of relevant to this Superpowered Love venture, as it was all inspired by my love of comics. (The only thing that'd make comics awesomer would be more sex. Let's be honest.)
When that happens, I think I'll link rather than repost, just to avoid clogging the net with more of my crap. And so I give you:
DC Comics and Self Doubt via KVTaylor.com
The comics and the doubt are unrelated. This time.
Katey Hawthorne news incoming soonish, as we get ready for Equilibrium at the end of the summer. Mmm, superpowers. So excited!
